Acacia Quartet includes four remarkable musicians: Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy (violins), Stefan Duwe (viola) and Anna Martin-Scrase (cello).
Their diverse careers led them to play in chamber ensembles and orchestras the world over before forming the Acacia Quartet in 2010.
The Quartet quickly won great respect from critics for the mesmerising beauty of their performances and for their versatile and inventive programs.
In just five years Acacia has released as many albums, including their ARIA-nominated recording of songs with soprano Jane Sheldon, North and South and the complete string quartets of Elena Kats-Chernin, Blue Silence which was selected as ‘Editor’s Choice’ in Limelight Magazine, ‘CD of the Week’ on ABC Classic FM and nominated for a 2013 APRA-AMCOS Art Music Award. Their performances feature regularly on ABC Classic FM and on Fine Music 102.5 where Acacia is proud to be artist-in-residence.
In addition to Acacia’s special relationship with composers Elena Kats-Chernin and Lyle Chan, the quartet also has collaborated with various other composers and performers including singer-songwriter Katie Noonan, vocal ensembles Halcyon and the Song Company, soprano Jane Sheldon, flautist Jane Rutter and ARIA Award-winning pianist and composer Sally Whitwell.
So far Acacia’s engagements include the Melbourne Recital Centre, the Concourse, the National Gallery of Victoria and various Australian and international festivals.
Since 2016 Acacia has presented its own concert series in the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House.
For this “Rosamunde” concert, which was recently performed by Acacia at the Sydney Opera House, the quartet will play Haydn’s String Quartet Op.77/1; Elena Kats-Chernin’s From Anna Magdalena’s Notebook and Schubert’s String Quartet No. 13 ‘Rosamunde’.
