Design complete for Six Mile Creek bridge

Noosa MP Sandy Bolton said design work was complete for the new Six Mile Creek bridge.

A stronger structure is set to replace the timber Six Mile Creek bridge on Kin Kin Road, three kilometres north of Pomona.

Noosa MP Sandy Bolton said the Department of Transport and Main Road’s (TMR) new $18 million, concrete bridge would be sturdier, wider and higher, improving safety and traffic flow for the growing community.

“The new bridge will be up to three metres higher than the existing timber structure,“ Ms Bolton said.

“It will withstand more significant flooding, reducing the frequency and duration of closures during significant wet weather.

“The new bridge is more than twice as wide as the current structure, which has only one lane and requires drivers to stop and give way to opposing traffic.”

Ms Bolton said it would have two 3.8-metre-wide lanes allowing motorists to travel across without waiting.

“TMR will build a 2.5-metre shoulder on each side creating more space and improving safety for all road users,” she said.

“The design also includes installing new dedicated turn lanes into Bellbird Flat Road and realigning sections of Kin Kin Road and the bridge approaches.“

Ms Bolton said the design was complete and construction was expected to start later this year (2022), weather and construction conditions permitting.

“With design now complete, TMR’s next step will be appointing a construction contractor,” she said.

“Once underway, works are expected to take 12 months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.

“Transport and Main Roads will provide further updates to the community before any works start.“
