Charity golf day keeps bringing smiles

A good day of golf and the chance to help sick and disadvantaged children had members of clubs across Noosa heading in droves for the Noosa Golf Club last Friday.

More than a decade since it was begun by Glenn “Puck” Puckeridge the Smile for a Child charity golf day aimed to raise another $25,000 to add to the $350,000 already donated to charities including Sunshine Butterflies, Starlight Children’s Foundation, SunnyKids, KIDS Foundation, the Australian Himalayan Foundation and Noosa special case individuals.

In 2007 Puck took the idea of combining forces to the managers of the Noosa Combined Clubs and now there are five clubs involved: Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club, Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club, Tewantin Noosa RSL and Noosa Golf Club.

“It’s important for our clubs to show that they are beneficial to the community,” he said.

Puck said it wasn’t hard to get the community on board and now the players and sponsors keep coming back year after year with a little help from “Little” Jo Power and a team of volunteers who donate their time to round them up.

Each year the five clubs and Smile for a Child patrons Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Roger Cawley convene to determine where the money will be allocated.
