Mixed fortunes across the grades

First Grade

Last week vs Glasshouse, the TNT backed up a big win at Nambour with another comprehensive performance. Skipper Mick won the toss and elected to bowl, expecting some early assistance. While the wicket proved flatter than anticipated, that didn’t stop wickets falling regularly. The seamers were disciplined and economical, with Rowdy turning back the clock once again, but spin was the key as Mick, Joe and Josh G did the bulk of the damage.

Glasshouse were frustrated into a defensive innings, with long periods of disciplined bowling eventually leading to wickets. All out for 140 from 49 overs, a total well below par.

Determined to keep momentum rolling, Mick wasted no time in the chase. Mick was in devastating form, striking the ball to all parts with a mix of power and innovation to rack up 74, bringing up his eighth fifty of the season for Tewantin. At the other end, Joe batted with class and composure, finishing unbeaten on 36*, as the target was chased down two wickets down inside 23 overs, securing double bonus points and top spot on the one-day ladder.

This week vs Maroochydore, First Grade travelled to face the competition benchmark. Winning the toss again, Mick elected to bowl and the decision paid early dividends. Despite some early hitting from Callum Stitt, the bowlers applied pressure beautifully, picking up four wickets inside the first 15 overs to have Maroochydore 4/78.

Rory led the attack superbly, claiming three key wickets, with Josh Christensen providing excellent support. The bowling unit worked tirelessly, but Maroochydore’s experienced middle order showed its class, batting sensibly through the middle overs, rotating the strike and punishing anything loose. A few fielding lapses and missed chances and a late surge allowed them to build to 9/272, a total that felt was 30–40 runs more than it should have been, but still very chase-able.

The reply began in explosive fashion. Sam struck four boundaries in the opening over, while Mick hooked his first ball for six, as the openers rocketed to 41 without loss after three overs. The stand continued to build before Mick departed for 23, with the score already racing along.

Sam (48) held the innings together alongside Kratzy (23), but a cluster of wickets in the middle overs stalled the momentum. At 6/134, the chase looked difficult, but Ben Giddy (22) and Rory Ramsden (27) combined to give the side renewed hope. Rory, in particular, showed outstanding maturity and game awareness, especially impressive for his age against the best bowling attack in the competition.

Late contributions from the tail made it interesting but losing too many wickets in quick succession proved costly. The innings closed at 202 in the 41st over.

While the result didn’t go our way, it was a strong performance against the other top team in the comp and provided plenty of learnings. The group now turns its focus to a day-nighter at Coolum next week to close out 2025 with momentum.

Second grade

Second grade travelled to Glasshouse needing a win to boost their ladder position. Batting first on a flat wicket, Ben Blackwell (42) and Zak Woolmer (43) set the platform before late hitting from Adam Graves (26) and Levi Towart (34 off 26) lifted the total to 5/173.

With the ball, Levi struck first ball, and Aedan Mayo (1/21 off 8) bowled an impressive spell, but Glasshouse kept the run rate under control and reached the target late in the innings. A competitive effort, with the side returning home next week needing a win to launch a finals push.

Unfortunately, not much to write about this week. Tewantin bowled out on a wicket playing some tricks for 52 and chased down with 8 wickets to spare. A disappointing loss coming off two really competitive games.

Third Grade

Last week v Nambour-USC, the Thirds battled with just nine players. Bodhi O’Brien (30)* was the standout with the bat as Tewantin posted 101. Despite great energy in the field, including a brilliant catch from Jayke Carlile, NUSC chased the runs two wickets down.

This week v Coolum, the side put in a much-improved performance. Lewis Ramsden and Jason Toohey(55) batted through the first 25 overs, setting a strong base before Jayke Carlile (46)* lifted the run rate late to reach 6/189. A strong fielding display kept the game alive, but Coolum managed to reach the target with 7 balls remaining in a very close contest. 47 extras being the difference in an otherwise impressive performance.

Sixth Grade

Sixth Grade travelled to Yandina after calling on some late help filling the side. Batting first on a flat deck, Nick (24) was the top scorer as the team were dismissed for 103. Defending the total, Mick Rosing made an excellent start with two early wickets, and the fielding effort remained strong, but Yandina chased the runs with overs to spare. A tough result, but a big thank you to all who stepped in to make the match possible.

This week Sixes reversed their fortunes in an impressive win over Cooroy with a real team effort. All the bowlers bowling with discipline and sharing the wickets and the batters all chipping into chase 103. A much-needed win and hopefully the start of some momentum into the new year.

Women Team

The Women’s side travelled to Snake Country against Caboolture and, despite a few players delayed at the pub, took the field thanks to juniors and reinforcements. Maya impressed on debut with outstanding fielding and a spectacular catch, while Hannah starred with 1/19 and top-scored with 30. Bec W (29) batted calmly and kept brilliantly. Despite a loss, the ladies enjoyed a great day together against a really strong team— and everyone left with four tyres on their car.
