Get in for a grant

NOOSA Council’s latest round of community grants is now open for applications and local groups are encouraged to apply.
Applicants have until 12 noon on 26 October to apply for council’s new economic development grants and the latest round of community projects grants.
The economic development grants have been designed to help local business associations deliver projects that stand to boost the local economy.
Council’s senior economic development officer Carolyn Bullen said these were projects that encouraged business collaboration and innovation, built skills, filled local workforce gaps and positioned Noosa as a preferred location in which to conduct business.
“As the economic development grants are a new initiative I strongly advise prospective applicants to discuss their application with a council officer prior to making an application,” Ms Bullen said.
Community projects grants help fund eligible projects, programs and cultural, sports or community events that bring residents together.
The grants, allocated through a competitive assessment process twice a year, can also help fund building works or repairs to local facilities.
Noosa Council community development co-ordinator Alison Hamblin said the community projects grants, now in their sixth round, had supported a wide range of initiatives since 2014.
“These include the recent successful Noosa Strade Bianche heritage bicycle event and race that draws competitors from across the globe. They have also provided materials for local men’s sheds to improve their facilities, and cash for environment groups to carry out a wide range of projects,” Ms Hamblin said.
“These community projects help build social capital and represent great value for ratepayers as the groups themselves usually contribute funds and volunteer labour to ensure their success.”
