ATTENTION green thumbs … for the first time in three years, Cheryl and Bob Boyd’s world-class garden Stringybark Cottage will be open to the public on the weekend of 15 and16 October.
Nearly 25 years in the making and one of Australia’s most famous sub-tropical gardens, Stringybark Cottage is nestled among a towering woodland of blackbutt, stringybark, and tallowwood at Verrierdale, near Eumundi.
The garden is a series of ‘rooms’ each having their own ambience, discovered unexpectedly as visitors find their way from one spot to the next.
Beyond the rooms is a wilder garden that melts quietly into the forest. Stepping-stone paths, rock walls and artfully placed pots and sculptures contrast the plants and delight the garden visitor.
Cheryl is a renowned horticulturalist and garden designer, responsible for many stunning Australian gardens.
Gardening Australia’s Jerry Colbey Williams and film crew have just completed a shoot at Stringybark Cottage that will appear on this popular show in early 2017.
The open day, a benefit for the No Broiler Farm Cooroy community group, will offer delicious lunches, morning and afternoon teas, a raffle with great prizes and a plant stall featuring many of the plants found in this wonderful garden.
The garden open day will be held on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October, from 10am to 4.30pm, at Stringybark Cottage, 13 Sudholz Road, Verrierdale. Entry is $8 per person and there will be signs along the road to help visitors find the home.
