POLICE have arrested a 79-year-old man who was seen running through the Noosa National Park in nothing but shoes and a scarf.
The operation was established last week after a personal trainer used their phone to record the GPS co-ordinates and times of the man running through the park and then reported the information to the police.
Police used the information to track down the Sunshine Beach man over a number of days last week.
Acting officer in charge at Noosa Heads Senior Sergeant Peter Feldman said it was important to note the incident was separate from Alexandria Bay and police acted after they received a complaint about a male running naked through the park.
Snr Sgt Feldman praised the resident who used technology to help police arrest the man.
The man was charged with wilful exposure and will appear before Noosa Magistrates’ Court on 4 October.
North Shore operation
SOME 14 drivers were caught speeding on Noosa North Shore at the weekend after local police carried out a road safety blitz on the popular beach.
One ticket was handed out for riding a motorbike without a helmet, one driver was fined for driving an unregistered car, another was fined for driving while unlicensed, but 14 drivers were caught speeding along the sand.
Snr Sgt Feldman said that speeding on the beach was dangerous as the public also used the beach for recreation.
“Some drivers forget the Noosa North Shore is a major thoroughfare,” he said.
There were good results from the blitz with not a single positive breath test returning a positive result from 87 random breath tests carried out.
Drug bust
A MAN and a woman have been charged with drug offences after they were caught in the carpark of the Noosa Golf Club at the weekend.
Snr Sgt Feldman praised local officers who noticed a suspicious looking car parked in the car park of the Noosa Golf Club, about 1am on Thursday 8 September.
Police searched the car and found a small quantity of a “crystal substance”, drug utensils, plastic clip seal bags and a sum of cash.
A 40-year-old male from Cooroibah has been charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property used in connection with drug offences and failing to dispose of drug implements.
A 37-year-old Gympie woman has been charged with possessing drug utensils. Both will appear in the Noosa Magistrates’ Court on 27 September.
Snr Sgt Feldman said the arrests were thanks to the good work of local officers.
“We have a strong focus on drug offences and keeping drugs off the street and that will continue,” he said.
