Time of renewal

SPRINGTIME is the most important time in the growing phase of orchids, according to the Noosa District Orchid and Foliage Society.
Most of the plants have flowered and are now producing new growths and new roots; this is the ideal time to repot your collection.
Orchids that grow are ephytes (grow on trees) hate being grown in pots. The potting media should be replaced every two years as it breaks down and causes the mix to hold too much moisture, which leads to the roots rotting.
Also when fertilisers are applied this can cause a build up of harmful salts in the mix.
The Noosa club held a terrific show in Cooroy at the end of September. Thank you to all the people who supported the show. It was a resounding success.
The Noosa club meets at the Tinbeerwah Hall on the first Saturday of each month from 1pm-4pm.
The objective of the club is to share growing ideas and promote friendship with like-minded people.
The next meeting will be concentrating on repotting orchids. All visitors are welcome.
For more information phone John Green on 5483 2764 or visit the club web site and like them on Facebook.
Happy growing.
