Turtle action

Leigh Warnameinde (Coolum and North Shore Coast Care president), Junior Eco Leader Liam Previti, and Sherida Holford of CaNSCC Turtle Monitors.

As the numbers of turtles nesting on our beaches increases turtle carers are taking action to educate people about the habits and need.

Coolum and North Shore Coast Care is providing an Eco Discovery event at for all ages to learn about the life cycle of turtles. No live turtles will be displayed but real shells and a life size turtle (named Joan) will be watching as children work out ways to help turtles lay their eggs and assist hatchlings to make it back to the ocean. Turtle experts will help children explore and learn about the turtles nesting on Sunshine Coast Beaches. Threats such as foxes, balloons, people, strong lights and plastic will be discussed and through interactive games, children will learn strategies to reduce plastic and save our turtles. Junior leaders will assist with the program.

The eco discovery event will be held at Power Park, Mudjimba from 9.50am to 12 noon. A gold coin is requested and registration via the following website is required: www.coolumcoastcare.org.au Two other events have been planned for 10 June and 29 July 29.
