Written by Jordan Harrison (writer of the Netflix hit ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK) and nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, Marjorie Prime is a coup for NOOSA alive! showcasing some of Australia’s finest actors, including Australian theatre legend Maggie Dence as Marjorie. Maggie rose to fame as the Australian comic character Mavis Bramston on one of our earliest comedy TV shows – The Naked Vicar Show and is also well known to audiences for playing the regular character of Dorothy Burke in Neighbors. She is one of our most prolific and acclaimed stage actors so too are the rest of the cast – Lucy Bell (who plays Marjorie’s daughter Tess) and Richard Sydenham (who plays Marjorie’s son-in-law Jon). Lucy is also well known from playing the lead role in the TV series Murder Call for many years as well as key roles in Love Child, A Place to Call Home and All Saints. Still to be cast is Walter – the hologram – but be assured it will one of Australia’s finest rising stars.
Intimate in setting yet ambitious in scope, Marjorie Prime, delves into a world of artificial intelligence and robotics and virtual assistants but through the lens of the everyday, the every-woman and family.
The benefits and joys that technology could bring but also the possible heartache, this play is about the impression we leave on others, the details we remember, the stories we re-craft and the love we’re lucky to experience.
This is a play for all demographics. For those who are interested in the ways in which we rely on technology in our lives and both the challenges and rewards of that. And the possibilities. And also for anyone who loves great theatre or great writing and loves to have a bit of a laugh and a bit of a cry. This play is the kind of thing you’d see on a cool groundbreaking Netflix series like BLACK MIRROR but to experience that live in a theatre is an even greater pleasure.
NOOSA alive! is on July 20-20. Book your tickets now for this one to avoid disappointment via www.noosaalive.com.au or The J Booking Office P: +61 7 5329 6560.
