A legend of the Australian film and television industry, Michael Caton, has performed in television, theatre and film at home in Australia and abroad during a career spanning more than 40 years.
Now the star of cult classic The Castle is returning to his regional Queensland roots, joining the Heart of Gold film festival as a jury member and to celebrate the Queensland Premiere of Three Summers.
Caton hails from Monto, 150km west of Bundaberg, and went to boarding school in Gympie where his love of acting began.
As well as his riveting and hilarious role as Darryl Kerrigan in The Castle, Caton played Uncle Harry in The Sullivans, hosted his own shows like Hot Property and starred in classic TV shows such as Stingers, Packed to the Rafters and Blue healers.
He will be hosting a Q+A session following Heart of Gold’s feature film for 2017, Three Summers, in which he performs alongside the star-studded cast of Deborah Mailman, Magda Szubanski, John Waters, Kelton Pell, Kate Box, Rebecca Breeds and Robert Sheehan.
The film is an ensemble comedy following the mischief and mayhem of the musicians and punters at fictional regional summer music festival “Westival”.
The 10th Heart of Gold festival offers its biggest and best program to date.
Screening 150 brilliant short films from every corner of the world, the program includes award-winning films from the Oscars, Cannes, and Berlinale.
Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival takes screens at the Gympie Civic Centre, from 5-8 October. For more information, to see the full program and to buy tickets, head to www.heartofgold.com.au
