Noosa Main Beach provided a calm oasis for participants in the fifth annual Summer Swim over the weekend but rain kept some of the onlookers away.
Organiser of World Series Swims and Noosa local John Guise said while many open beaches had been closed swimmers had only good feedback from the conditions at main beach.
Olympic swimmer Michael Klim led the youngsters in the first swim of the event before participating in others including a 1km swim with fellow Olympian Libby Trickett who took to the event while 35 weeks pregnant.
“She challenged her co-hosts on radio Triple M Luke Bradnam and Ben Dobbins,” John said.
“She still managed to beat one of them.”
Noosa’s Nick Sloman and Aisha Thornton won the 5km Noosa Grand Prix on Sunday.
The main event win for Nick follows on from his first national title win last week in Adelaide where he claimed the 10km Open Water event at the Australian Championships.
Aisha, who represented Scotland at the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, also took home the prize for Saturday’s 3km event. It was the second year in a row Aisha won the 3km swim and the first major event win for 14-year-old Jackson May of Tanawha.
