Roundabout of dreams

A NEW roundabout at the intersection of Myall Street and Nandroya Road, which forms part of the upgrade to the Cooroy to Curra Southern Interchange is now open.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the new roundabout was a major milestone in the delivery of the $490 million Bruce Highway, Cooroy to Curra – Section A project.
“This roundabout is a vital component of the Cooroy southern interchange upgrade, which will meet capacity and efficiency demands for long-term road freight and transport needs in the region,” Mr Chester said.
“In its entirety, the Section A project will deliver a new 13.5 kilometre, four-lane divided highway between the Cooroy southern interchange and the recently completed section of the Bruce Highway at Federal.”
Queensland Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey said it was great to see both the Australian and Queensland governments working in partnership to deliver much-needed improvements to the Bruce Highway.
“An average of 433 jobs will be supported throughout the life of the project,” Mr Bailey said.
Mr Bailey added there would be several traffic changes in place on the local roads.
“A separate 200-metre section of Nandroya Road will remain a single lane with a reduced speed limit of 40km/h until early October, with temporary traffic lights in place,” Mr Bailey said.
“Motorists are reminded to follow road rules and provide a one-metre clearance to cyclists along this section.”
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said a new 200-metre realigned section of Nandroya Road would open in both directions from the roundabout.
“Motorists will use the new roundabout to access Nandroya Road and the southbound on-ramp to the Bruce Highway,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Section A project is expected to be completed by early 2017, weather permitting.”
The $490 million project is being funded on a 50:50 funding arrangement between the Australian and Queensland governments.
