Library upgrade on track

The $1.7million revamp of the Noosaville Library is on track to re-open in late November.

Libraries and Galleries Manager Kerri Contini said Council was about three weeks away from starting the fit out.

“The bulk of the refurbishment work is nearing completion and it’s incredibly exciting to see it all taking shape,” she said.

“For the first time the library will have a designated outside area for people to enjoy the beautiful Noosa lifestyle and still access all of our library resources and Wi-Fi connectivity.

“The main library has also been extended to include a large multi-purpose room which will be used for our special events and programs, as well as the Justice of the Peace, tax help and other community services that are run out of the library.”

A small meeting room has also been transformed to house the full Heritage Library.

“In the past most of the collection had to be locked away due to lack of space, but now we’ll be able to have these historic resources available to the public and on display,” Ms Contini said.

“Our regular library visitors will also be thrilled to know that the much-loved art banners that took pride of place hanging from the ceiling have found a new, refreshed home in the new look library.”

The official opening will be held on 4 December, which marks 25 years since the library first opened its doors.

“There’s a beautiful synergy in how the dates have fallen and we are so excited to be able to show the community their magnificent new space,” Ms Contini said.

The Noosaville Library closed in March and has been running out of temporary sites at Noosa Leisure Centre and Noosa Civic.

Noosa Council received $805,954 under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program toward the refurbishment program.
