Festival for all Australians

The inclusiveness of the Noosa Lions and Rotary communities was among the reasons singer Andrea Kirwin wanted to perform at the Noosa Australia Day festival being held on Saturday 26 January on Gympie Terrace, Noosaville from 7am to 5pm.

“It’s a wonderful way to celebrate being Australian,” she said. “I do have compassion for the indigenous community wanting to change the date. It would be lovely to celebrate all together.”

With her mother a Fijian church minister, Andrea first found her love of singing in church when she was growing up in Townsville. She gave up a law degree to follow a career in music and now the singer-songwriter performs about 300 shows a year across Australia and New Zealand.

Her broad style includes folk, roots, blues and reggae and on Saturday she will be singing mostly originals with a few classic Australian songs in the mix.

Festival organiser Jacqui Nichols said the free festival would raise funds to support local charities United Synergies, Katie Rose Cottage and St Vincent de Paul.

“We’ll have a knockout line-up for everyone so bring the family, grab your friends and come along to the Noosa Australia Day Festival,” Jacqui said. “We’re bringing Lions Park in Noosaville to life with Cheap Fakes headlining great Aussie talent on the main stage, and plenty of kids’ fun, amusement rides and fabulous food stalls in the park all day.

“We also have comedians, a magician, pony rides, classic cars, baby wallabies and plenty more fun.”

There’s also entertainment from comedian Cherry Atrick; a display of Noosa classic cars; roaming entertainment from Brazilian dancers, musical comedy, balloon artists and a stilt walker; and other kids’ activities including pony rides, a giant slide, rock wall climbing, rides, Luke’s reptile kingdom, a petting zoo, Koala Crusaders, baby wallabies and face painting.
