The Mary River Road Bridge at Cooroy and the Old Noosa Road Bridge at Cooran have reopened after being replaced at a cost of $3.6 million, made possible through matched grant funding from Noosa Council and the Federal Government.
The bridges were officially opened this week by Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington and Wide Bay MP Llew O’Brien.
“The new bridges are designed to cater for heavy vehicles – up to 160 tonne on the Mary River Road Bridge and 44 tonne for the Old Noosa Road Bridge,” Cr Wellington said.
Mr O’Brien said the infrastructure had been built to a very high standard and each bridge should have a life-span of about 100 years.
Noosa Council Project Coordinator Dennis Luinstra thanked the local community in helping to facilitate the safe and steady progress of works by Council staff and contractors.
“Council greatly appreciates the patience and good will exhibited by the Cooroy and Cooran communities throughout the bridge closures and rebuilds,” he said.
