Queensland has broken its own poor record for the number of domestic violence order breaches within the past 12 months.
New data released by the Queensland Police Service revealed more than 28,200 breaches have been recorded in the past 12 months which is a rise of ten per cent, compared to February 2018.
Shadow Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Stephen Bennett said Mt Isa, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Brisbane and the Gold Coast have all experienced substantial increases.
“This follows the shocking revelation that over 1,300 Queensland children were harmed in 2016-17 after they were deemed safe by Child Safety,” he said.
Data shows that the Wide Bay Burnett region has recorded 1,840 domestic violence order breaches within the past 12 months up to February 2019. This is an extra 130 breaches compared to the year before, earning a rise of 7.6 per cent.
The Sunshine Coast region has had a 14.6 per cent rise in breaches over the past year, with 1,250 cases recorded for the year up to February 2019.
