Cooroy out of this world

The Australian Body Art Festival transformed Cooroy into another dimension last weekend as 60 competition from across the nation interpreted the theme of ’Other Worlds’ in many different ways.Body artists, face painters, visual artists and wearable art designers created and paraded their masterpieces across five competition categories at Apex Park during the two day festival. And added to this artistic expression were some amazing entertainers including Aerial Dreaming on the silks, the Mask Family street performers, Nova Star stilt walkers and Gubbi Gubbi Dances, who mentioned body painting had long been their custom.

Event manager Danielle Taylor said the team which included many volunteers was overjoyed with the festival’s success.

“It was the biggest and best yet with something happening at any time in every corner of the festival,“ she said. “We have created something truly unique and amazing and we intend to nurture that in the future.“

Prize winners for 2019 included:

Brush and sponge body art: Kristy O’Neil of Adelaide

Airbrush body art: Ryan Cribbin of Katumba

Special effects body art: Gina Nomachi of Melbourne
