Collaborative art at Cooroy

Intergenerational studio secrets, a cross-discipline collaboration and an exhibition showing the works of the region’s First Nations people, art is bridging divides at Cooroy’s Butter Factory Arts Centre, this winter.

The thriving community arts hub launches four new exhibitions this month which coordinator Alicia Sharples says highlight the connections art weaves in community.

Eighteen indigenous artists present their works in ‘Hear My Voice’ under the guidance of esteemed painters Jandamarra Cadd and Paul Calcott; nine summer school students show paintings created in class with artist and teacher Michael Winters; ceramicst Fiona Cuthbert O’Meara and oil painter Alan Pirie share space in a collaborative exhibition and onsite studio artist, Cherry Logar, presents her two-day pop up show, made with generous guidance by sculpting legend, Phil Willy.

“Here’s four exhibitions of people’s works who wouldn’t have otherwise shared space, if it wasn’t for their art,” Ms Sharples said. “Come the afternoon of the official opening and it’ll be awesome looking around the space and seeing just how wide reaching the benefits of creativity are.

“I love the way art brings people together.”

The exhibition officially opens at 4pm 22 June. Entry is free and the show is on display until 23 July.
