After Food Agribusiness Network Ambassador Martin Duncan saw a clip online of a tea party that helped a 96-year-old Scottish woman with no family left beat loneliness, he decided to create a similar event of his own, Scone Time.
Martin, who is also President of Country Noosa and Cooroy Chamber of Commerce, said Scone Time is a wonderful opportunity for older people, along with their carers, companions and family to establish a regular monthly social event.
The event is on the second Tuesday of each month.
“At the time that I viewed the clip of the tea parties on Facebook, Cooroy Memorial Hall was being refurbished and I was like, I’m so going to start doing something for the community and Scone Time was born,” he said.
Martin said he feels rather blessed after the success of the event.
“We have an amazing following who attend every month and Scone Time is supported by our local community groups and businesses,” he said.
“The event has not only reignited life into the Cooroy Memorial Hall but also helped older people feel connected to their community.”
Martin said the event has become an important occasion for seniors in the area.
“Scone Time has become an amazing social experience where attendees can simply turn up on there own or with family or carer and have a great cuppa and hot scone with jam and cream and chin wag.”
Through his many roles, including President of Cooroy Chamber and Country Noosa, Martin is involved in a huge range of other local events.
“You’ll see me at most events as I am very passionate about promoting a sustainable hinterland and creating a stronger rural community,” he said.
“I’m also on a count down to The Ginger Food and Flower Festival from 17 -19 January 2020 and Noosa Food and Wine Festival from 14-17 May 2020. Two amazing events I’m proud to be involved with.”
The next Cooroy Scone Time with Noosa Black Coffee is on Tuesday 10 September at 10am in Cooroy Memorial Hall.
