Open House launched

Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey officially launched the third annual Sunshine Coast Open House on Monday ahead of its Open House weekend on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October.

Other guests included Sunshine Coast Council Deputy Mayor Tim Dwyer, Noosa Councillor Ingrid Jackson and Noosa’s award-winning architect John Mainwaring.

The free community event provides visitors with the opportunity to tour 30 architecturally diverse, contemporary, sustainable and historic buildings from Caloundra, Maroochydore and Nambour to the Hinterland, Peregian, Noosa and Pomona.

Visitors will hear long-kept secrets behind some of the region’s most intriguing buildings such as the Hinterland’s Bankfoot House and Fairview (Pattemore House), Caloundra’s Lighthouses, Wilson Beach House, Gabriel Poole’s Lake Weyba House and Quadropod House, Youi HQ and USC Stadium, in guided tours led by Sunshine Coast architects and informed volunteers.

Sunshine Coast Open House Committee Chair Councillor Adrian Just said the expanded weekend program would showcase the region’s heritage, public spaces, green star projects, beach houses and places seldom seen within the rich tapestry of the Sunshine Coast.

“There is the chance to see backstage and behind the scenes of familiar places, the opportunity to see grand and small, views and workplaces, and many beautiful spaces not often shared with the wider populace,” he said.

Sunshine Coast Open House is part of the Open House Worldwide network, founded by Open House London more than 25 years ago and now in more than 40 cities around the world.
