Tewantin performance a winner

Tewantin State School has won their fourth award in three years at the Kids in Action Conference at Kawana. This year they took out Best Main Stage performance for their production entitled Weeyal, the story of the Black Cockatoo. This year Kids in Action had more than 250 students across the region attend, with students presenting, sharing and showcasing their connection to Country through their chosen iconic flora and fauna species. Weeyal is the Gubbi Gubbi word for the yellow tail black cockatoo. The students showed a video story of the making of their production plus a contemporary-traditional melding of the black cockatoo dance as taught to them by Lyndon Davis and Brent Miller of Gubbi Gubbi Dancers fame. Their performance was voted the best mainstage by their peers and was so well done, they were invited on stage to perform with Gubbi Gubbi Dancers for the closing ceremony.
