It was a day full of smiles for STEPS Education and Training students who graduated with a Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care and Disability) on Monday 6 December.
A total of 11 out of the 12 students who graduated the course have already gained employment in the industry and some were unable to attend the graduation due to work commitments.
STEPS Education and Training Executive Manager Dr Teressa Schmidt said this is further proof of just how valuable these skillsets are to the growing industry.
“Although we had a number of students missing from the graduation ceremony it’s fantastic to know that their unique skillsets are already being utilised to help support people,” Dr Schmidt said.
“We know how essential these graduating students are for the disability and aged care support industries and this amazing uptake of employment shows just how important they are.”
Noosa Shire Mayor Clare Stewart also spoke at the event and said the disability and aged care sectors were two of the most valued sectors in our community.
“These students are meeting an incredibly important local need and helping so many in our community including our most vulnerable and our most at risk,” Mayor Stewart said.
“I thank them on behalf of Noosa Shire for the contributions they will make to the community through the work they will do.”
The students completed 120 hours of placement in the aged care and disability sector and completed their studies over 26 weeks.
The program is run under the Skilling Queenslanders for work program funded by the Queensland Government.
Skilling Queenslanders for Work provides skills development, training and job opportunities to unemployed, disengaged or disadvantaged Queenslanders through a suite of targeted skills and training programs.
