Cooroy gymnasts stand out

The Senior Mens Team from the Cooroy Gymnastics Club competed at the South East Queensland Regional Championships.

The event held at the Gold Coast saw the best men’s gymnasts from 24 clubs compete in the qualification event for the upcoming Queensland State Championships.

The Cooroy team of Mackenzie Jones level 7, Felix McWilliam level 9, and Lyam Chandler, Dean Chandler and Finlay Jones level 10 took on all six

apparatus in their respective divisions.

The level 10 gymnasts had a stand out competition with the boys taking out second, third and fourth in the all around.

They also had multiple podium finishes on floor, parallel bars and vault. The vault placings of second and third are especially pleasing as the boys have to train with a short run up and don’t get to land them until competition day as the club has no vault landing area.

Mens coach Greg Smyth said he was happy with the solid results and the boys were now focusing on refining the routines for states which are just two weeks away.

Results:

Level 9: Felix McWIlliam: second vault and third floor.

Level 10: Dean Chandler: second high bar, third vault, third parallel bars and third rings.

Lyam Chandler: third all around, second vault, second parallel bars and third floor.

Finlay Jones: second all around, first floor, first parallel bars and second pommels.
