Since Thursday 22 December, the Sunshine Coast District has recorded an increase in thefts involving motorcycles and mopeds.
Many of these vehicles have been wheeled away from their premises without the keys, prompting police to remind vehicle owners to be security conscious and implement crime prevention tips to help reduce chances of theft.
Security tips:
– Always use the handle/bar/fork lock on your motorcycles.
– Consider applying a disc lock with an audible alarm to deter theft.
– Secure your motorcycle or moped in a secure place at all times.
– Put a cover on your motorcycle and secure to a fixed point.
– Vary your parking habits and park your motorcycle in well-lit areas.
– Consider installing a remote engine immobiliser device which meets Australian Standards.
– Consider installing a GPS tracker on your motorcycle or moped.
The lead up to Christmas saw a large number of motorcycle and moped thefts from homes along the Sunshine Coast including a Kawasaki Ninja 250R that was allegedly stolen from the car park of an apartment block in Alexandra Headland on 22 December.
A suspect has been identified and investigations are continuing.
On Friday 23 December, it is alleged that unknown offenders have stolen a Sang Yang moped from a carpark at a unit complex in Quamby Place, Noosa Heads, while on 27 December, it is alleged that unknown offenders have stolen a Sang Yang moped from Cooyar Street, Noosa Heads.
In Maroochydore, at sometime between Saturday 24 December and Tuesday 27 December, it is alleged that unknown offenders have stolen a BRAAP ST250 from First Avenue, Maroochydore.
