Noosa artist opens classes in Pomona

If you’re looking to get creative in the new year, Pomona artist Natalie Barlow can teach you a thing or two about how to beautifully blend colours.

In February this year, Natalie’s paintings will be exhibited at the Noosa Regional Gallery, which continues into the beginning of April.

Born in Geelong, she studied graphic design at the Melbourne College of Decoration and in 1987 attained a TAFE certificate in Promotional Display and Advertising.

Since then, Natalie has worked as a graphic artist in Melbourne, Coffs Harbour, Sydney and now the Sunshine Coast, where she’s lived for 12 years.

“My interest in art started while studying graphic design,” Natalie said.

“While commencing art classes in 1986 at the local community centre, I soon developed an interest in painting wildlife, particularly birds and landscapes.

“Since teaching oil painting from 2016, my students enjoy learning diverse subjects from birds to landscapes, seascapes to portraits.

“We are so fortunate to be living in Australia with so many species of birds and a land filled with ever changing scenery.

“If you are interested, you can look at my website which has many different subjects to give you inspiration on what you would like to paint.”

Natalie’s students are from diverse backgrounds, from not having lifted a brush, to wanting to try working with oils.

“When the students start working with oils they soon realise how forgiving the medium is and how beautifully you can blend colours,” she said.

Group classes are $45 and private lessons are $50 for two hours. Maximum three in a class. Natalie also provides the canvas which is $6. Classes are taken from Pomona.
