Fatal car crash on the Sunshine Coast

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a 45-year-old Fitzgibbon woman died following a three-vehicle traffic crash at Meridan Plains on Monday 20 February.

Initial investigations indicate around 8.45am, a grey 2018 Kia Sorrento station wagon was traveling north along Kawana Way Link Road when a collision occurred with a stationary Toyota Hilux utility towing a box trailer, which was pulled up on the left shoulder of the road in the same direction of travel.

The collision forced the Kia into the path of a green 2013 Honda Jazz which was traveling south along Kawana Way Link Road, seriously injuring the 45-year-old Fitzgibbon female driver who later died from her injuries in hospital.

The driver of the wagon, a 25-year-old Nirimba woman, sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital as a precaution.

The two men in the Toyota were not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the collision and appeal for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash, or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
