Directors of The G Contemporary, Karen and Steve Beardsley opened the solo exhibition Under Stilts by local artist Mitchell Cheesman on Saturday 15 April to an excited audience.
Crowds were eager to meet the artist and indulge in his layered, textured paintings, beautifully constructed and oozing with deliciousness.
In this year of change, Mitchell Cheesman has experienced travels afar, literary indulgences, feasts for the eyes and an abundance of all things sensory.
Painting away from the stark bright lights of suburbia in the new lush and green tropical surroundings, nestled under a quintessential Queenslander, “Under Stilts”, has culminated in an extraordinarily stunning exhibition.
In the words of the artist, Under Stilts is a “text-less diary entry of poetic mirage, identifying as the uncategorised sentiment, considering studio transition and melancholic temperaments, to only then, focus on a form of life, when moving still.”
