Hail, hail rock and roll delivered live in Noosa!
After a drying up of live gigs over recent months, Noosa venues and beyond have suddenly come alive with great gigs, and this weekend kicks the trend off with style, offering the following:
Vintage Rock Freddys style
After playing for years in various bands in Melbourne, Sydney and the Sunshine Coast (as a founding member of Noosa’s legendary surf band The SandFlys), bassist and singer Chris Lofven is now following his passion to lead a band of like-minded musicians to perform a repertoire of favourite classic rock songs from the ‘60s right through to the 90s.
Joining Chris in The Freddys are Simon Bland on guitar and vocals, Michael Davies on guitar, and Terry Cook on drums and vocals. Venues played to date include The Apollonian Hotel, The Marina Bar Noosa, Alfresco’s Garden Cafe, Noosa Hinterland Brewing Co., Pomona Hotel, Coolum Beach Bowls Club, Mrs Browns Diner, Palm Lake Resort and Noosa RSL.
“The reaction we’ve received so far is people love the choice of material we play,” says Chris, “and it’s got a good beat and you can dance to it!”

Claptomaniacs rock the Marina
If you haven’t been down to the Marina Bar in Tewantin of late, take a trip down as it’s now a bigger mixed music live venue than it was before, with great food and scenic views to go along with the sounds.
Noosa band The Claptomaniacs will be entertaining you this Sunday June 2 from 4-7pm for a classic Sunday session. The five-piece Claptomaniacs always love playing a local gig, and they will be bringing their extensive repertoire of authentic sounds along, which includes a dance mix from the late ‘60s to late ‘80s, covering artists such as Clapton, the Doobie Brothers, Billy Joel, Travelling Wilburys, Boz Scaggs, Hollies, Creedence, Santana, Joe Cocker and many more – even one or two Beatles thrown in for good measure!

Botanic’s First Sunday in a while
The weather gods may just be kind this time around.
After the last two washouts of the popular First Sunday event in Noosa Botanic Gardens, many fingers are crossed that the next event, this Sunday June 2, will actually go ahead!
Anyone who has attended one of these Sunday morning get-togethers knows how enjoyable they are, whether it’s joining the 8.30am guided walk through the season’s most interesting parts of the gardens, or the 9am opening of the exotic Shade Garden – and surely the grabbing of a coffee at the nearby stand.
But it’s also about enjoying the music hosted by Jay Bishoff and friends who will serenade you under the poincianas from about 10am, taking you through to midday, time to enjoy a picnic in one of the many tables dotted through the eight-hectare gardens.
Whichever activity you prefer, they are all happening on Sunday June 2 at Nosa Botanic Gardens.
