Local not for profit domestic violence organisation Beyond DV will be leading a delegation of Queensland survivor advocates and experts at the first ever National Domestic Violence Roundtable on Recovery and Healing in Melbourne on 11 June.
The organisation is a founding member of the Australian Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Recovery Alliance.
Being co-convened by the Alliance and the National Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner Micaela Cronin, the roundtable is centred around recognising the importance of long-term holistic recovery support for families, beyond crisis care.
This element of domestic violence support is also a critical part of domestic and family violence (DFV) prevention.
Twelve representatives from Queensland will be attending the roundtable including three survivor advocates with Beyond DV who’ll represent the many elements of holistic recovery support which are required to help families successfully rebuild their lives and prevent intergenerational violence.
Findings from the discussion will inform the work of the national Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence Commission and the Australian Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence Recovery Alliance, as well as the Commission’s yearly report to parliament on progress towards the implementation of the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-32.
The 70 people who are attending will represent the four pillars of the Australian Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Recovery Alliance including:
– Trauma and Holistic Models of Healthcare.
– Responsive and Accessible Pathways to Justice.
– Centring Children and Young People.
– Housing and Economic Recovery.
The roundtable follows the launch of the Alliance’s film on recovery and healing at Parliament House in February 2024.
