Local band Ampersand has unveiled the release date for their latest single, Grass Is Greener.
Fresh off the success of their debut EP, Entry Level, Ampersand is back with the latest concoction from their wild musical minds on Thursday 17 October.
Grass Is Greener is Ampersand’s anti-materialistic indie-pop anthem for the new age of the cost of living crisis.
After almost four years of gigs, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast’s local funk family has spread their infectious brand of effortlessly improvised fusion across the globe with their recent streaming wins.
The product of a RADF grant, Yama Nui session and Ampersand’s grit and determination, Grass Is Greener is their favourite addition to their discography.
Ampersand band manager and keyboard player Jarrod Tutbury said, “Grass Is Greener is the crew’s favourite track, especially to play live.
“We tried to capture more of our high energy live sound in this recording session, compared to the chill soulful vibes of Entry Level. It’s definitely a song to blast in the car.“
Their own interpretation of the old adage, ’The grass is greener on the other side’, this single is a candid, hopeful breakdown of what really makes them dissatisfied with the superficial, fast paced lives, increasingly under pressure.
As young adults who can remember the good old days when keyboards cost less than cars, they’re saying “it’s OK”.
“We need to adapt. Things are more expensive, but we don’t need things. The more you want, the less fulfilled you find yourself. After all, you can never be satisfied if you only value material possessions,“ they said.
Ampersand has learnt not to waste time always wanting something you can’t have, but to cherish and enjoy what you already have instead.
As Ampersand announces Grass Is Greener’s release date, they also celebrate the song’s first birthday.
Written in their marathon songwriting sessions for the 2023, and final, Caloundra Music Festival, Grass Is Greener embodies a stylistic shift from easy listening soulful funk storytelling, to hard hitting, driving pop/rock anthems.
Grass Is Greener will be available to stream on Spotify, iTunes and wherever you listen to your music from 12am Thursday 17 October 2024.
