Coffee for Daniel initiative raises $16,000

Bruce and Denise Morcombe of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation have received a huge cheque thanks to coffee drinkers at Banjo’s Bakery Café, following a successful fundraising campaign across its Queensland stores this October.

The campaign coincided with the 20th annual Day for Daniel, Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness initiative.

Since the tragic abduction of their son Daniel in 2003, Bruce and Denise Morcombe have worked tirelessly to champion child safety through the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, equipping children nationwide with crucial personal safety education.

This year, Banjo’s Queensland stores raised an impressive $16,544, contributing to a total of nearly $50,000 over the past four years. These funds support the Foundation’s vital mission and highlight the power of community collaboration in creating a safer future for children.

Individual store efforts contributed significantly to this year’s success. The Sippy Downs store raised nearly $1200, while Bokarina led the way with $3035. Maroochydore raised almost $1000, and Warana contributed $800, showcasing the dedication of local teams and customers.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe expressed their gratitude for the ongoing support from Banjo’s Bakery Cafés.

“It’s been wonderful to have Banjo’s on board as supporters for several years now with their Coffee for Daniel initiative. Their generous donations help us create free educational resources to keep kids safe,” Bruce said.

Denise said, “This year’s Day for Daniel was our biggest yet, with more than 8600 schools, early learning centres, and businesses registered. From its modest beginnings, 20 years later, we estimate that some two million Australians participated.”

“We are so proud that Day for Daniel continues to make a powerful statement about children’s safety across Australia. Thank you to Australia for never forgetting Daniel. This is Daniel’s legacy at work,” Bruce said.

Banjo’s acting chief executive officer Bradley Saxby echoed their sentiments.

“We are incredibly proud to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and the vital work they do to protect children and educate families about safety,” Bradley said.

“This year, our Queensland stores came together to raise $16,544 during October, and over the past four years, we’ve contributed nearly $50,000 to the Foundation’s mission. It’s a privilege to be part of such a meaningful cause and to see our community rally behind it year after year.

“Our partnership with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is something we hold close to our hearts, and presenting this cheque is a reminder of the incredible impact we can make when we work together for a safer future for children.”

The cheque presentation marks another milestone in Banjo’s Bakery Café’s longstanding commitment to supporting the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and their mission to create a safer Australia for all children.
