In light of the recent reprioritisation of key transport projects by the Queensland Government, Sunshine Coast 2032 (SC2032) has unveiled an innovative solution to meet the region’s transport and infrastructure needs ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With the spotlight on affordability, accessibility, and long-term legacy, this community-led proposal is set to redefine how the Sunshine Coast connects and thrives.
The revised proposal moves beyond the previously announced direct rail extension to Maroochydore, offering an integrated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that connects all major hubs, including the University of the Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast Airport, key population centers, and Olympic venues.
Roz White, Chair of SC2032 said, “We believe this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to set a course that benefits the Sunshine Coast community for decades.”

As part of its ongoing advocacy, SC2032 is calling on the government to reconsider and prioritise this alternative, community-led solution, emphasising that time is of the essence to ensure readiness for the Games and beyond.
Following the recent announcement that Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie has reconsidered the government’s commitment to completing the Sunshine Coast Rail extension to Maroochydore due to estimated cost blowouts, SC2032 Chair Roz White has expressed her support for the decision.
“We applaud the government’s leadership and Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie’s willingness to explore alternative transport solutions that can be delivered in time for Brisbane 2032,” Mrs White said.
