Flickerfest returns to Noosa for a night of side-splitting laughs

Flickerfest will return to Noosa for a night of side-splitting laughs and world-class short films at The J, Noosa Junction, on Thursday 24 April, at 7pm.

As Australia’s leading short film festival, we continue to champion bold storytelling and creative vision, celebrating the very best in Australian filmmaking.

Celebrating 34 years in 2025, Flickerfest remains Australia’s premier Academy Qualifying and BAFTA Recognised short film festival, showcasing A-list short films that rank among the world’s best.

Selected from a record-breaking 3500 entries, these films highlight the pinnacle of short filmmaking talent.

This year, prepare for our Short Laughs Comedy program, a hand-picked selection of the funniest and most entertaining films from our prestigious Academy Award and BAFTA-Qualifying competition in Bondi.

Expect sharp wit, quirky characters, and hilarious moments that bring the joy of comedy to the big screen.

On Thursday 24 April at 7pm, The Short Laughs Comedy programme brings a delightful mix of offbeat Flickerfest shorts from Australia and around the world, guaranteed to entertain and uplift.

Catch the hilarious Sunny Coast comedy The Hoist, directed by local director Sunshine Beach resident Janneke Williamson and written by Coolum resident Emma Morgan, who will be along on the night to introduce their film.

The Hoist is filmed on location in Beli Park and brought to life by a talented local cast and crew, with a fresh and witty take on everyday misadventures, this film is sure to leave audiences in stitches.

The delicious black Australian comedy Candy Bar from director Nash Edgerton (Mr In Between), written by and starring award winning actor Damon Herriman (Justified, Breaking Bad) and the highly humorous Irish Film The Head On Him about a biracial boys move to small town Ireland & his attempts to tame his afro to fit in, only to find it growing back bigger than ever and the highly humorous Dutch Film Nelson the Piglet, about a family whose miniature pig becomes the talk of the town, winner of the Jury Prize for Best Short Documentary at Flickerfest 2025.
