Pedestrian crossing locked in for Factory Street, Pomona

The 2025-26 State Budget was handed down this week and the accompanying Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) has confirmed planning is underway, with construction set to begin in 2026-27, for a pedestrian crossing on Factory Street, Pomona.

The Independent Member for Noosa Sandy Bolton MP has thanked the Minister for Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Hon Brent Mickelberg MP and the government.

“This is a great outcome for our community, and I thank all fellow residents who advocated, including Save Noosa Hinterland for uniting in efforts,” Ms Bolton said.

Late last year, the Noosa MP endorsed a petition by local resident Nick Cooke as part of her advocacy regarding inappropriate levels of heavy haulage endangering these communities.

A meeting with the new Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Minister, Hon Brent Mickelberg MP, was held in December regarding the importance of fast tracking this project which was committed to during the election by both major parties.

Sandy has said the need for a safe crossing on Factory St, Pomona as well two others in the precinct, is necessary for residents to access essential services and their homes.

“Future users include our school children, who traverse these roads on their way to school and after school activities. Our efforts included making sure the design was on track ensuring readiness for a commitment of funding and construction,” Ms Bolton said.

In response to the petition, the minister noted at the time the advocacy from the Member for Noosa and looks forward to working with her to improve safety outcomes in the Noosa region.

“We thank Minister Mickelberg for his efforts regarding Factory Street and for following through on this important funding commitment made earlier this year,” Ms Bolton said.

A full Noosa budget summary, including the good and the not so good, will be posted on Noosa 360 www.SandyBolton.com/Noosa360, which also has updates on many matters Sandy is working on.
