Construction on new boating infrastructure in the Noosa Shire has been locked in to begin in 2027-28.
The 2025-26 State Budget has been handed down and the accompanying Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) confirmed planning is underway, with Noosa MP Sandy Bolton welcoming the progress.
“We have had ongoing productive conversations with the Minister for Transport and Main Roads regarding the $2.5 million commitment and look forward to updates on how and where these funds will be spent,” Ms Bolton said.
Priorities for boating investment were noted in a recent Noosa Council General Committee Meeting, though how these funds will be spent would be subject to further council deliberation and their discussions with Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ).
“Meetings are occurring between MSQ and Noosa Council and reported has been verbal support for assisting with ‘on shore’ infrastructure with this funding, which is positive news, and our recent conversations with Ministerial staff now indicate some flexibility,” Ms Bolton said.
The Noosa MP continues to work with all in our community for infrastructure improvements that deliver the most benefit for Noosa electorate residents, ensuring all voices are represented to state government.
“We will continue to monitor progress and follow up with the minister, MSQ and Noosa Council. Thank you to everyone involved in advocating for improved facilities for our community as we have much to do in progressing many priorities including the Tewantin Bypass,” she said.
Recently following long term advocacy from Sandy and others, MSQ has also installed trial navigational lights on the port and starboard buoys and beacons on the Noosa River, marking the navigation corridor from Woods Bay to the Noosa cable ferry.
“This will assist in making night-time boating safer on our waterway, however, please remember to do your bit and ensure your vessel displays the correct navigation lights, whether underway or at anchor! Gratitude to the MSQ team,” she said.
