Noosa Heads professional surfboard shaper Josh Constable will return to the Thermos Australian Longboard Titles to defend his title from 22-27 July.
As the O40 Men reigning champion, Josh will be competing in the Tweed Coast with his son, Jive Constable, in the juniors.
“The Tweed Coast offers such a great variety of surf this time of year,” Josh said.
“I’m looking forward to defending my title and more importantly being down there to support my son, Jive, in the juniors, hopefully he can go one better and clench his first Australian title.
“I’m gunning for a win in the Open Men’s division to secure a spot on the ISA longboard team, it’s going to be challenging, but hopefully it turns out the way we hope.”
As the longest running event on the Australian calendar and with athletes representing all six surfing states, the stage has been set and ISA Qualification is on the line in the Open Men and Women divisions for a chance to join The Irukandjis Australian National Surfing Team.
The event will run consecutively in the Tweed Coast from Duranbah in the North to Hastings Point in the South.
Surfing Australia Contest director Glen Elliott said longboarding captures the heart and history of the sport.
“Longboard surfing is where it all began, mastering a 9 foot board shows the true art and all the traditional elements of our sport,” Glen said.
“The Australian Longboard Surfing Championships consists of all of the age divisions starting with the masters Over 40 through to the Grand Legends over 70’s in Men and Women’s divisions.
“We finish this celebration of Australian Longboarding with our hotly contested Open and junior divisions on the weekend.
“This event embodies the spirit of longboarding. It’s about family, fraternity, and the joy of old friends and making new connections.”
Legends will be made, and legacies continued. It’s a rare opportunity to see multiple generations of surfers compete side by side, from seasoned champions to emerging talent.
