GenesisCare marks one year of cancer care in Noosa

GenesisCare is marking its one-year anniversary at its Noosa location, which offers advanced cancer care to the Sunshine Coast and Gympie communities.

GenesisCare, Noosa was the first to offer radiation therapy in the area and over the last year has established itself as a leading local cancer care provider with its complimentary transport service for eligible patients, access to clinical trials, and its dedicated breast care nurse who manages a Breast Cancer Wellness Clinic considered to be the first of its kind in Queensland.

GenesisCare Noosa’s Centre leader Ira Jahner said, “We are proud to mark our first year of offering patient-centred, evidence-based cancer care in Noosa with a dedicated team that go the extra mile to care for the person, while also treating the disease. Our nurse knits beanies for patients who are receiving chemotherapy in combination with radiation therapy and our pet photo wall of fame features furry friends that remind them of home; it’s the little details that can make a difference to patients and help them feel more comfortable.”

“GenesisCare Noosa treats a range of cancer types, but our breast cancer offering has developed considerably during our first year. We have a dedicated breast cancer care nurse, Jean Kelly, who offers support, information and medical care and now also runs our Breast Cancer Wellness Clinic. The clinic is one of several operating at GenesisCare centres across the Queensland and focuses on transitioning patients from cancer treatment to their new normal. We also offer tattoo-less breast radiation therapy at GenesisCare in Noosa,” Ms Jahner said.

GenesisCare Radiation Oncologist Dr Bradley Wong said: “We are pleased to mark this milestone and continue offering our high-quality radiation therapy to the local community of Noosa. Cancer can be a challenging time for patients and accessing cancer treatment in your neighbourhood can ease the travel burden and the associated stress.

“Our Noosa centre not only gives locals an option for cancer care close to their home, but it also allows me to offer patients from my Gympie clinic a more convenient cancer care option, along with a complimentary transport service for eligible patients. We know that a long commute can be a barrier for patients seeking cancer treatment. Our transport service aims to make the trip a bit easier for patients in need.”

“Since GenesisCare opened in Noosa a year ago, our dedicated bus service drivers, Brad and Geoff, have taken nearly 250 round trips to Gympie collectively. Having experienced both cancer and riding as bus passengers themselves, they are able to connect with patients and understand what they’re going through,” Dr Wong said.

In addition to Radiation Oncologist Dr Bradley Wong, GenesisCare Noosa also offers services from Radiation Oncologist Dr Sophia Ly and Radiation Oncologist Dr David Schlect with various specialties across a range of adult tumour types, as well as some benign conditions.
