Sunshine Beach Nippers ready to make waves for new season

Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club is gearing up for another action-packed season, with registrations now open for its 2025 Nippers program.

Designed for children aged 6 to 13, the Sunshine Beach Nippers program is all about surf safety, skill-building, community and fun.

Whether your child is new to the beach or already confident in the surf, Nippers is a great way to build water confidence and lifelong friendships.

Director of Junior Activities, James Beer, said the program continues to go from strength to strength.

“We’re incredibly proud of the community we’ve built at Sunshine Beach SLSC, and our Nippers program is the cornerstone of that,” Mr Beer said.

“Our Junior Activities program first began in 1994 and has developed into one of the most successful and recognised Junior Activities and sporting programs in Queensland.

“From our Club Sundays to the surf sports arena we look to provide our young lifesavers with confidence, knowledge and skills in a fun and enjoyable environment, while promoting fair play, teamwork and a healthy, active lifestyle.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming new and returning families for what will be another fantastic season at one of the strongest and fastest-growing surf clubs on the Sunshine Coast.”

Wading, swimming, board paddling, body surfing, boogie boarding, flags, sprints/running and surf sport opportunities are all a part of the program.

But it’s not just about the kids – Nippers is a whole-club effort, and the team is calling on parents and carers to get involved on the sand and in the water.

The Club is rolling out several training programs to enable parents to assist with water safety.

“There’ll be a chance to complete your Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) or Bronze Medallion during the first week of the September school holidays, so you’re ready to go by the first Nippers Sunday. More training sessions will also be offered in October,” Mr Beer said.

Whether you’re helping in the water, on the beach or simply cheering from the sidelines, there’s a way for every family to be part of the fun.

“We can’t wait to see everyone back in action on Sunday, 28 September,” Mr Beer said.

“Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm – here’s to a fantastic Nippers season!”
