Sunny Coast on Monopoly

The Sunshine Coast edition of MONOPOLY hit shelves this week and locals now have the chance to buy, trade, and sell their favourite Sunny Coast hotspots.

Players will get to chase spaces like Mount Coolum and Mooloolaba Beach, instead of the classic squares like Mayfair and Park Lane.

Dale Hackett, a representative from Winning Moves, a games company that develops regional MONOPOLY games under license from Hasbro, a leading games, IP and toy company, has spent the past year with his team meeting with local councils, businesses, and taking suggestions from residents to build a game that honours the wide-ranging areas that make up the stunning coastal territory.

“We’ve been receiving requests for a standalone Sunshine Coast edition for years but wanted to make sure we got the edition right,” Dale said. “The area spans such a wide coastal range, with a treasure trove of hidden gems and special pockets. It’s so much more than stunning beaches and the iconic Big Pineapple. We hope the game we’ve created will be what locals have wished for.”

The custom Sunshine Coast-themed squares and cards are:

Brown: Noosa, Gympie

Light Blue: Kenilworth, Maleny, Montville

Pink: Mount Coolum, Queensland Air Museum, Mudjimba Island

Orange: The Ginger Factory, Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World, Amaze World

Red: The Wharf Mooloolaba, Laserzone, Sunshine Plaza

Yellow: The Big Pineapple, Maroochy RSL, Kenilworth Country Bakery

Green: Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat, Maroochydore City Centre, The Original Eumundi Markets

Dark Blue: Glass House Mountains National Park, Mooloolaba Beach

Tax: Beach Restoration, EcoVenture

Utility: Caloundra RSL Memorial Gardens & Museum, Caloundra RSL Services Club

Travel: Shelly Beach, Dicky Beach, Moffat Beach, Kings Beach

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said it was an exciting day for the region to have its own Monopoly Board.

“Who hasn’t dreamed of owning the Big Pineapple or even the Ginger Factory? This is such a fun twist on a traditional family favourite,” she said.

The new MONOPOLY: Sunshine Coast board game is now available at all major retailers.
