Emerging artist exhibitions

For any first-time exhibitor, their first exhibition is at once daunting yet thrilling.

Cooran artist Sally Holt’s exhibition titled Artefact at Pomona Railway Station Gallery, until January 7, takes that pluck one step further.

The beautifully curated exhibition follows Sally’s personal 2D and 3D journals and her unfolding as an artist. Most of her pieces are Acrylic and Mixed media on canvas, as well as some 3D Ceramic pieces.

“My pieces and processes become a living Artefact of my artistic journey, and this exhibition is my way of sharing this journey with others,” Sally says.

Sally describes herself as always creative, though she spent a considerable part of her adult life in the corporate world. Eventually, she found her way back through a millinery traineeship, graphic design, jewellery making and finally a course in teaching Art Therapy.

Pomona’s Jo Ellis is also holding their first solo exhibition until January 1. Jo’s exhibition, Montane, consists of ink works, focusing on mountainous abstracted landscapes, from the familiar Mt Cooroora to further afield and imagined.

Montane (mountain) ecosystems exist as part of the beautiful Noosa Hinterland landscape.

Gallery president, Ron Collins, says the first exhibitions are always exciting for the gallery, and usually for visitors, as potentially they are a springboard for greater recognition.

“It is one of the reasons the gallery will host an Emerging Art Prize as a cornerstone of our 25th anniversary next year, “ he says. Further details will be announced early next year.

The volunteer-run Pomona Railway Station Gallery, which last year welcomed 10,000 visitors, is at 10 Station St, Pomona. The gallery will remain open between Christmas and New Year. Check the website or FB for details.
