Winner takes $100k

A Coolum man has confessed he hasn’t stopped celebrating since unwrapping a $100,000 prize on the Instant Scratch-Its he scratched on Christmas Day.

The happy Queenslander’s winning $5 Merry Christmas Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Coolum Beach Newsagency, Shop 23, 8 Birtwill Street, Coolum Beach.

“I’m still soaking it in! It’s pretty cool!” the winner laughed when speaking to an official from The Lott.

“It was actually a Christmas scratchie I got from my uncle, and I only scratched it on Christmas Day! I couldn’t believe it.

“I sometimes get a bunch of scratchies as a gift, and this is certainly one of the best Christmas presents I’ve ever got.

“I’ve been celebrating ever since!

“I’m not exactly sure what I’ll do, but I’ll probably go to Bali for a holiday.

“It’s a great time of year to win and will make for a happy new year!”

Coolum Beach Newsagency owner Melanie Parkinson Rogers said there was a sense of déjà vu with this win.

“I was so excited when I heard we’d sold a winning ticket. I had goosebumps as if I had won the top prize myself,” she said.

“Remarkably, the last top prize win we had was exactly the same day eight years ago!

“It’s such a good feeling to know your outlet has provided people with the joy of winning and hopefully improved their lives in some way.

“Congratulations to our winner. What a way to start the new year!”

In FY25, there were 151 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $12.5 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 25.3 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $253 million. This equates to almost half a million winners and more than $4.8 million won on Instant Scratch-Its each week.

Every month, Instant Scratch-Its’ 2nd Chance Draw gives you another chance to turn your eligible non-winning Instant Scratch-Its into a winner. Visit thelott.com to enter this month’s 2nd Chance Draw.
