An award-winning Sunshine Coast community organisation is calling on locals to help change lives in 2026, with Sunshine Coast Riding for the Disabled Association (SCRDA) seeking new volunteers to join its dedicated team.
Based at North Arm, SCRDA provides therapeutic horse riding programs for people with disabilities, helping riders build physical strength, confidence and independence in a supportive and welcoming environment.
With demand for its programs continuing to grow, the organisation is now inviting mature, dependable and compassionate community members to get involved.
To kick off the new year, SCRDA will host a Volunteer Orientation and Induction morning on Monday, 2 February, from 9am to noon, at its Monak Road centre. Morning tea will be provided, and no booking is required.
SCRDA spokespersons say volunteering is a rewarding way to give back, even for those who can only spare a few hours each week.
“In return for your time, you’ll be rewarded with millions of smiles,” a spokesperson said.
“Our volunteers play an essential role in helping riders achieve goals that many people take for granted.”
“The benefits of the program for riders are well documented. The horses’ gentle nature and rhythmic movement help improve balance, coordination and posture, while stimulating core muscles and mobility. Just as importantly, the close bond formed between rider and horse often leads to increased confidence, reduced anxiety and stronger social connections.”
“For many riders, this is about much more than physical activity.”
“It’s about emotional wellbeing, focus, independence and a sense of achievement.”
No prior horse experience is required to volunteer, with SCRDA providing full training and ongoing support. While horse knowledge can be an advantage, it is by no means essential.
And for those who prefer to stay off the arena, there are plenty of other ways to help. SCRDA is also seeking volunteers with skills or interest in IT, social media, fundraising, public relations, grounds maintenance and office administration.
On the day, prospective volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-in footwear, sun-smart clothing and to bring a positive attitude. Practical training will be offered in the days following the induction, with volunteers encouraged to attend where possible to gain a deeper understanding of the centre’s programs and operations.
