Next generation

Five engineering graduates have joined Unitywater as part of its Graduate Development Program, helping support water and wastewater services across the region, including Noosa.

The new intake marks the 13th year of the program, which aims to bridge the gap between university study and the workforce while building the next generation of water industry professionals.

The graduates, with qualifications in civil, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering, will complete a two-year rotation across several areas of the organisation. These include daily operations, major infrastructure projects, environmental management and innovation.

Unitywater Executive Manager People, Culture and Safety Kenan Hibberd said the program attracted a large number of high-quality applicants.

“We’re excited to welcome another group of graduates to help contribute to Unitywater’s service delivery as we support our customers across Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa,” Mr Hibberd said.

“As a water and wastewater services provider, we apply just about every sort of engineering to our day-to-day operations, from environmental to mechanical.”

Unitywater is responsible for delivering essential water and sewerage services to the region, including households and businesses in the Noosa local government area.

Mr Hibberd said the graduate program provided valuable career development opportunities across the organisation, not only in engineering but also in areas such as finance, technology and communications.

The initiative has already helped launch the careers of many young professionals.

Last year, Bachelor of Business (Public Relations) and Bachelor of Creative Writing graduate Alli Hayden joined the program and spent time working with the utility’s customer research, engagement and insights team.

“I’ve gained a wealth of practical experience and knowledge from my mentors and was provided ample opportunity for professional development,” Ms Hayden said.

“I’m proud to have been offered a permanent position as Customer Research Advisor within my first year with Unitywater.”

She encouraged other recent graduates to consider applying.

“It’s a fantastic way to kickstart your career, learn and grow your skills while discovering different areas within your study area,” she said.

More information about the graduate program is available on the Unitywater website.
