Put Sunday 27 March in your diary for what will be a super special Park Sounds event in Dick Caplick Park Eumundi, presented by the team at the Imperial Hotel as part of the Offbeat Music Festival weekend.
The family fun begins with craft and educational workshops from 11am – 1pm hosted by the Beezotted Native Bee Workshop team and Chony’s Art Room, along with face painting by Miss Donna. All workshops are fabulously free and open to kids of all ages. No registration required but please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
From 12.30pm, The Gubbi Gubbi Dancers will take to the stage, sharing their traditional dances and stories for a special Park Sounds Welcome to Country.
It’s then all about the music (through til 5pm), with a line-up featuring Frank and Louis, Sollz, Jam and Scones, and The Long Johns.
Frank and Louis are two young brothers with some serious musical talent. Louis, 13, is the main singer and plays six string guitar. Frank, 15, sings harmonies and plays six and 12 string, harmonica and stomp box. Their indie-folk covers and originals won them the Australian National Busking Championships title (under 18 category) and they were one of three finalists in the 2021 Bluesfest Busking Championships.
Sollz are a teenage band from the Eumundi School of Music – established to provide scholarships to the most outstanding young musicians on the Sunshine Coast since Katie Noonan and co started the initiative in 2016. Sollz brings together Zara, 15, on vocals; Lacey, 13, on bass; Oliver and Lochie, both 15, on guitar; and Senti, 15, on drums.
Aside from some banging covers, Sollz are sure to impress with their original songs.
Jam and Scones are breathing life back into Classic Rock, with their diverse and dynamic arrangements of timeless hits.
Having just begun university, this seven-piece ensemble of groovy young adults complement rock, soul and reggae classics with originals from their new unreleased EP. With their soaring saxophones, rich harmonies and energetic stage presence, these gents are quickly bursting onto the live music scene.
The Long Johns are a four-piece posse who come together to play spooky country with that ‘old-timey’ swing, peppered with the spiciest of flavours to deliver songs of hope, loss and hauntings. With a line-up of banjos, sousaphone, national guitar and the pots and pans, The Long Johns are Sian Evans, Steve Buchanan, Skritch and Paul Watson preparing a tincture of dark country and barnyard bangers. Like the cure-all tonics of old, The Long Johns are good for what ails you.
Additional Offbeat side events will also take place at Bask on Friday 25 March and Eumundi Coffee on Sunday 26 March.
