Art in the Springs

Art in the Springs, an exhibition of eclectic works by renowned lettering artist, Dave Wood in collaboration with award winning photographic artist, John Street, promises to be a stunning collection of unique art.

Dave, who has had a successful freelance career in graphic design since the age of 23, working for advertising agencies in Auckland and Sydney, will be exhibiting his original paper sculpture artworks, calligraphy art as well as architectural folds together with John’s incredible photo images.”John arrived a couple of years ago from Melbourne and gave me a roll of his large format photographs on my drawing board,” Dave said.

“Can you do something with these?” he grinned.

“This was the beginning of our collaborative journey which has been exciting and rewarding as I found myself breaking the boundaries of conventionalism experimenting with a new concept of architectural folds.”

In 1998 he opened Australia’s only Calligraphy Art Gallery which he and his wife, Jan, ran for 13 years in Batemans Bay, NSW, before moving to the Sunshine Coast. On his arrival 15 years ago he was invited to exhibit his paper sculpture artworks at the Noosa Regional Gallery. A collection of his work was then exhibitied in regional galleries up and down the coast. His work has been collected by many private investors and sits in corporate collections in the United States, New Zealand and Europe as well as Australia’s National and State Libraries.

John Street has been a freelance all his life, photographing Twiggy in the 1960’s on Carnaby Street in London and winning awards in the advertising business.

“I use light as my paintbrush and a special sensitive paper as my palette,” he said. “They are meditative pieces which have evolved in a conversation between the image, the light and my ultra large format hand built camera, I call the dinosaur.’

His works have also been collected by private and corporate investors.

Art in the Springs will run in the Sunset Lounge at the Noosa Springs Clubhouse, Links Drive, Noosa Heads, from its opening on Thursday 11 April at 6pm until Sunday 14 April with 10 per cent of sales to be donated to Santa’s Classy Helpers.
