Peregian Beach Community Association has applauded developers for working with the community and the Town Plan in a new village project.
PBCA president Barry Cotterell said the village had seen a good example this week with the approval of a redevelopment at 214 David Low Way in the heart of Peregian Beach.
PBCA congratulated AG22 Pty Ltd (Peregian Beach Shopping Centre Discretionary Trust) for lodging a Noosa Plan compliant application to redevelop an important site in the Village.
“We note that because the application is compliant and in harmony with other aspects of the village that it was readily approved and will have community support,” Mr Cotterell said
The site is zoned Local Centre, has an area of 271m 2 and forms part of the Peregian Beach village connecting the car park along David Low Way to the village square via a popular laneway.
The applicant proposes to partially retain the existing single storey building and remodel it to retain two shop tenancies (facing David Low Way) and convert three tenancies for a food and drink outlet. A new upper floor level is proposed for office tenancies and a small food and drink outlet and balcony overlooking the square.
Barry Cotterell said Peregian Beach has seen some terrible development applications over the years that threatened the village amenity, so PBCA was pleased to welcome development that’s consistent with the zoning intent for the site and the contemporary coastal built form of the area.
“Our council currently can’t mandate rooftop solar, but with this approval they included a recommendation to install solar panels, and PBCA welcomes the developer’s willingness to do this, and hopefully act as a precedent to be followed by other building owners in the Village,” he said.
