Man charged with child sex offences

Detectives from the Kingaroy Child Protection and Investigation Unit and Kingaroy Criminal Investigation Branch arrested a 29-year-old man at Mount Coolum and charged him following alleged sexual offences against a child in the South Burnett in December 2024.

Police will allege the man used social media to communicate with an 11-year-old girl before he travelled to a town in the South Burnett on 16 December and met with the girl before the alleged offences took place.

Detectives executed a search warrant at a Mount Coolum address on Monday 30 December, and arrested a 29-year-old local man.

He has been charged with one count each of rape, indecent treatment of a child under 12, possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing a drug utensil.

He was refused police bail and was due to appear before Caboolture Magistrates Court on 31 December.

Police would like to remind the community of the dangers of social media and to be conscious of activities being undertaken by their children online.
