Investigation into gyro crash

Police are investigating an aviation incident after a gyrocopter crashed at Noosa North Shore early Sunday morning.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesperson said police received reports of the incident on 4 January, at about 6.20am.

“Initial information indicates a gyrocopter crashed into trees on Airfield Track,” the spokesperson said.

The two occupants of the aerial vehicle were located at the scene with minor injuries and were transported from the incident location for further assessment.

Emergency services attended the area, which is known for its remote bushland, to assist those involved and secure the scene.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokesperson said paramedics were called to a reported crash near the Teewah Firebreak Track at 6.25am.

“Paramedics attended a reported light aircraft crash near Teewah Firebreak track at 6.25am,” the spokesperson said.

Both occupants of the aircraft were airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

One man in his 50s was transported with back injuries, while the second man, also in his 50s, suffered knee and chest injuries.

Emergency services responded to the remote location to assess and stabilise the patients before they were transported by air for further treatment.

The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed.
