They came in all shapes and sizes, some performed acrobatics, and others just clung on but all the dogs surfing on Sunday were stars at the stand out event sponsored by VetShop Australia and held as part of the Noosa Festival of Surfing.

About five thousand people filled Noosa’s Main Beach edging further and further into the water as they jostled for viewing spots to watch the dogs and their human surfers.

There were a couple of first time surfers including Bella the cocker spaniel and Missy the French bulldog. Bella who normally joins owner Pauley on his stand up paddle board in the river found the waves a bit daunting and bailed early while Missy stuck it out despite a few wipe-outs.

Border collies Indie and Anna Jones were back again for their seventh year and so too was last year’s winner Spike with owner Rob Lorenzon.

A long time surfer Rob said when Spike kept jumping on other people’s surfboards he knew he had to get him a surfboard of his own.

Rob and Spike make the journey from Melbourne annually to the fabulous event that just celebrates dogs.
